The Space Inside a Clay Pot Is the Same as the Space Outside

  1. Inside the clay pot there is space, and outside the pot there is space. They were never two.
  2. When the pot breaks, no sky is lost. The emptiness simply rejoins what it always was.
  3. I live inside this body like air inside a pot, one with the boundless sky around me.
  4. Dear seeker, the walls you feel around yourself are only clay. Look within, and find the open sky.
  5. A river poured into a jar is still the river's water, tasting of the same endless source.
  6. Rain fills the valley's hollows, yet the vast sky above never grows smaller or larger.
  7. Hold a candle in a hut or in a palace, and the light is the same.
  8. Mountains rise from the earth like pots shaped by hands, yet space moves freely through them all.
  9. Each breath enters and leaves the body, as wind passes through an open doorway, belonging to no wall.
  10. I am Absolute. Inside and outside are one, and I rest as the boundless space within all.

Realization for Today

Sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ, sarve santu nirāmayāḥ, sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu, mā kaścid duḥkhabhāg bhavet. Om śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ.

May all beings be happy,

may all be free from illness,

may all see what is auspicious,

may no one suffer in any way.

Om peace, peace, peace.

सभी सुखी होवें,

सभी रोगमुक्त रहें,

सभी मंगलमय घटनाओं के साक्षी बनें

और किसी को भी दुःख का भागी न बनना पड़े।

ॐ शांति शांति शांति॥

— Traditional Sanskrit Shanti Mantra (peace prayer)

What does “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah” mean? It is a traditional Sanskrit peace prayer wishing that every living being is happy, free from disease, sees only what is good, and never suffers. In Ayurveda it expresses the ideal of health for all — body, mind and soul.
