Living Absolute: Abiding as What You Are | Daily Meditation Series 17

Most of life is spent trying to become something—better, calmer, wiser, happier. Yet the deepest spiritual insight reveals a simple truth: you are not meant to become anything at all. What you truly are is already whole, complete, indivisible, eternal, and infinite.

This daily meditation in the Living Absolute series is an invitation to stop striving and gently abide as what you already are.

The Meaning of Abiding

Most of life is spent trying to become something—better, calmer, wiser, happier. Yet the deepest spiritual insight reveals a simple truth: you are not meant to become anything at all. What you truly are is already whole, complete, indivisible, eternal, and infinite. This daily meditation in the Living Absolute series is an invitation to stop striving and gently abide as what you already are. The Meaning of Abiding Abiding does not mean holding on, concentrating, or controlling the mind. It means resting naturally, without effort, as the awareness that is already present. You are not asked to change experience, improve thoughts, or fix emotions. You are simply invited to notice: The awareness in which thoughts appear The presence in which sensations arise The stillness that remains untouched by movement This awareness is not personal. It has no boundary, no beginning, and no end. It is what you are. You Are Not the One Experiencing Awareness In daily life, it feels as though you are a person experiencing awareness. But in direct seeing, it becomes clear that awareness is primary, and the sense of being a person arises within it. Thoughts come and go. Feelings change. The body ages. But the knowing of these changes remains constant. That unchanging knowing is the Absolute. Daily Meditation: Abiding as What You Are Set aside a few minutes. There is nothing to achieve. Sit comfortably and allow the body to relax. Let the breath be natural. Do not regulate it. Notice that you are aware. Do not follow thoughts. Do not resist them. Simply rest as the awareness in which everything appears. If attention moves to thoughts, gently notice: these thoughts are known. Return not by effort, but by recognition—awareness is already here. Nothing to Maintain, Nothing to Lose The Absolute does not require practice to exist. It does not come and go with meditation. It is present in silence and noise, in clarity and confusion. Abiding is not a state. It is the recognition that whatever state appears, you remain unchanged. Even the sense of losing presence is itself known by presence. Living the Absolute in Daily Life Living Absolute does not mean withdrawing from life. It means living without inner division. Walking, speaking, working, resting—all arise spontaneously within the same indivisible awareness. When this is seen: Effort softens Resistance dissolves Peace becomes natural This peace is not dependent on circumstances. It is the peace of being what you are. Eternal, Infinite Bliss The bliss spoken of in the wisdom traditions is not excitement or pleasure. It is the quiet joy of non-separation. It is the ease of no longer trying to hold life together. It is the simplicity of being. Closing Reflection You do not need to reach the Absolute. You do not need to become worthy of it. You do not need to understand it conceptually. You are it. In this daily meditation, return again and again—not to an experience, but to the truth of what you are. Living Absolute is not a path forward. It is resting where you have always been.
