The four orders of society were created by Me, classifying them in accordance with qualities and actions. Although I am the creator of this system, know Me as non-doer and changeless.

चातुर्वर्ण्यं मया सृष्टं गुणकर्मविभागश: |

तस्य कर्तारमपि मां विद्ध्यकर्तारमव्ययम् ||

अनुवाद: गुणों और कर्मोंके विभागपूर्वक मेरे द्वारा चारों वर्णोंकी रचना की गयी है। यद्यपि मैं इस व्यवस्था का स्रष्टा हूँ, तथापि तुम मुझे अकर्ता और अपरिवर्ती जानो।
