What happens in those moments of single-pointed and focused devotion? You are so alive. The Tamogun and Rajogun is gone. Your entire being is vibrant. Sama dosha (balanced dosha) has happened. That's why it is called doshas. Dosha means imperfections. When three imperfections are in balance that is perfection!

The doshas change all the time. They even change during the morning, the afternoon and the evening. They change with the sun. During the mid-noon the pitta increases. So everyone should eat at that time. People should eat something before one o'clock. Between the breakfast and lunchtime, too, one must eat. That's when the pitta is higher.

Everything is a unit. Doshas changes. They change in your body in so many ways. Weather changes the doshas e.g. if it is a little hotter pitta increases of if it's colder vata increases. What can you do about that? You think if you sit in an air-conditioned room you'll be rid of it? It is not possible! These doshas keep changing, but some degree of health can be maintained by doing your practices (asanas), drinking water, having showers, and eating proper food. And there are moments of perfect health for everybody. Observe the doshas, take some Ayurveda powder medicines and tonics now and then. Food, spices, etc. are all to be taken in such a way so as to see that the doshas are in balance most of the time. Still, if they go out of balance we don't have to be agitated.

That's what Ashtavakra says, भावाभावविकारश्च स्वभावादिति निश्चयी ।Having feelings and having no feelings - some say that they have no feeling at all. They cry about having no feelings. How can one cry if there is no feeling? Crying is a feeling! Abhava (lack of devotion) is very painful. If you have had a taste of devotion, you feel that something is missing when it is not there. Something is missing for no reason. Abhava means lack of it. Bhava means the feeling, so Abhava is lack of the feeling. Vikarashcha means distorted feeling. Ashtavakra speaks about three things : feelings, lack of feeling and distorted feeling.

The three types of feeling come naturally. भावाभावविकारश्च स्वभावादिति निश्चयी । What is the nature? Vata, pitta and kapha are the nature. And the doshas, the changes in the body keep going up and down. Have this firm understanding in the mind. It's very beautiful having a confirmed understanding about what is happening! There will be some twists and turns somewhere. Attend to them by doing asanas. To keep the body healthy, we shouldn't neglect the asanas totally.

Have you noticed sometimes when you just do the asanas - even doing the neck roll properly - you feel very good? You have a good meditation. By doing the neck-roll, some dosha or impurity which was clogged somewhere in the mind is released. Immediately the mind felt better. It is the same with Kriya. Whatever dosha was there is purified by the waves of Kriya energy. The pulse-rate at the end of the Kriya will be even. Kriya brings the balance back.

There are various ways to bring the balance back. Surrender brings the balance back. Devotion washes off all the doshas. The moments when your are devoted, when the tears roll out of your eyes, there is focus in one thing.

It's like putting three people who fight with each other in three corners. You don't put any one of them above another; so there's a balance. If you put them in such a triangle or corners, they fight with each other, keeping their places. Otherwise, one starts to dominate the other two. Then there is a discomfort in the body, and in the mind.

All these things happen. But don't hanker for an ideal situation in the mind all the time. That very hankering creates an impression in the mind, and then it becomes a chain reaction. So know it is not you. It is only the nature of the maya, of the prakriti, of the thing. It has nothing to do with you.
