Calliandra haematocephala (Powder Puff/Red puff powder/Calliandra)Mimodacea.It is a tall (1-5.4 m height),spreading, evergreen shrub or a small tree. Flowers clustered in globose heads upto 7 cm across. It is commonly found as a weed throughout India. It is grown in gardens and parks as an ornamental. It has antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, anti inflammatory, anticonvulsant, immunomodulatory, antiulcerogenic, gastroprotective, wound healing ,blood purifier and insecticidal activities. In Nigeria, roots are used in the treatment of hemorrhoids. Leaves and roots are antisickling. It is also used to treat gastric ulcer and infectious diseases.
