His mind is free from restlessness, and the heart is one-pointed. He said that he was not running around in search of enlightenment, knowledge or anything else. He was totally, 'here and now' (in the present moment).

प्रीत्यभावेन शब्दादेरदृश्यत्वेन चात्मनः ।
विक्षेपैकाग्रहृदय एवमेवाहमास्थितः ॥

You may not be interested in anything wordly, but you may be interested in something spiritual - perhaps listening to music, chanting bhajans, or meditating for long periods. You may become obstinate about doing these things.

Suppose you are meditating and somebody drops a plate or dog starts barking. This is sufficient to keep you agitated for next two days! The dog has come and gone but you have caught hold of that event, and started getting worked up and agitated.

You are used to listening to some chanting, reading the Bible or Koran (to some holy scriptures). And one day you are unable to read it, and you feel awful! You are in the same boat. Either, you were agitated, maybe, because you did not have money, because of a relationship or something else. Now, you are agitated because you are unable to chant, meditate or do another spiritual practice. You are in the same boat!

Janaka said even the agitation for attaining God calmed down and left him. He was at peace with himself. All the agitation and restlessness in his mind had disappeared. His heart has become one-pointed. This is very beautiful. Your mind has to be one-pointed to achieve anything in the world. The mind becomes restless to achieve things, but to attain self-realization your heart has to be one-pointed. Usually your mind is one-pointed in work, and your heart is divided into many pieces. So many things occupy your heart. Janaka said that his mind has undergone a change. He had undergone a metamorphosis, and his mind was free from restlessness, his heart has become one-pointed. He was at rest and could say that God's Will will be done in a natural and spontaneous way.

This is the love of an intoxicated devotee, one who does not even bother whether he attains God or not. He feels that it is His will. If He wants, He will come. That he will not force or demand that God come. But that the devotee is always ready to receive Him; the candle is lit, the home is cleaned, and the flowers are ready. He is ready. God can come right away or after a thousand years. A devotee lives with that infinite patience, confidence and love. Janaka was like this. एवमेवाहमास्थितः । His mind is free from restlessness, and the heart is one-pointed. At the feet of Ashtavakra, Janaka began to open up, petal by petal. He said that he was not running around in search of enlightenment, knowledge or anything else. He was totally, 'here and now' (in the present moment).
