Understanding Grahni Disease...

THIS IS A DISEASE OF THE KOSHTHA AFFECTING THE IMPORTANT ORGAN OF THE BODY CALLED `GRAHNI`.

There are two important terms—

GRAHNI DOSHA-

--well described in CHARAKA CHIKITSAA STHAANA 15 especially verse 41---which depicts all the functional changes 

i.e. the dysfunctions of the AGNI. 

यो हि भुङ्क्ते विधिं त्याक्त्वा ग्रहणीदोषजान् गदान्| 

स लौल्याल्लभते शीघ्रं, वक्ष्यन्तेऽतः परं तु ते||४१||

CHAKRAPAANI here clears that all diseases based in GRAHNI can be called as GRAHNI DOSHA like AJEERN etc.

 GRAHNI DOSHA name is given especially to that VYAADHI in which there is dysfunction of the NAADI ROOP GRAHNI especially.

GRAHNI ROGA-

--described by SUSHRUTA UTTARA TANTRA 40#163-178-

--defining the GRAHNI as an organ, and saying it is a condition, in which there is a KARMAKSHYA of GRAHNI.

 Another phrase GRAHNI KA ABHIDOOSHAN means further deterioration of GRAHNI as an organ, so pointing that there is functional as well as anatomical defect in the GRAHNI ROGA. 

SUSHRUTA named it as GRAHNI ROGA.
