Tabernaemontana divaricata , Pinwheel Flower

Tabernaemontana divaricata (Pinwheel Flower)- this flowering plant is native of South & South East Asia.

The Genus 'Tabernaemontana' is named after 16th CE German herbalist Jakob Theodor Von Bergzaben. The specific epithet 'divaricata' means widespreading. It flowers sporadically all through out the year. It has characteristic pinwheel shaped white colored flowers. Both single and double forms (T.divaricara cv. Plena) exist. Stems of Tabernaemontana exudes a milky latex when broken. Therefore it got the common name 'Milk flower'. Because they bear flowers all throughout the year, it is one if the most common flowering plants in households for daily offerings to God. In Chinese medicine, Pinwheel flowers are used in treatment of Scorpion poisoning.
