Factors to be considered while doing CHIKITSA are –
DESHA, KAALA, PRAMAANA, SATMYA, ASATMYA.

This verse explains the methods by which a medicine acts in its proper way.

Here the DESHA means the body of the patient, and the place ROOP DESHA has been described under SAATMYA.
KAALA is of 6 types – DIN, AATURA, AUSHADHI, VYADHI, AAHAARA PACHANA and RITU.
AUSHADHA KAALA is of 10 types.
Doses of the AUSHADHA are of three types – ALPA, BAHU and SAMA.
SAATMYA is of 2 types – DESHA SAATMYA and SHARIRA SAATMYA. VYADHI SAATMYA has been included under the AUSHADHA. RITU SAATMYA is described under the KAALA.
PRAMAANA SAATMYA is included under SAMYAKA YOGA. That which is opposite to the SAATMYA has been said as ASAATMYA.
SAMYAKA YOGA means to use in the proper way as has been prescribed.
The faults produced by taking the BHAISHAJA opposite to these rules have been described by ANYTHA HI ESHAAMA PATHYMA API APATHYAM BHAVET, here the word ESHAAMA MEANS DESHAADI, ANYATHAETI means in the opposite way, PATHYAMA API ITI means the medicines which are conducive for the DOSHAADI, ANYATHETI means they becomes non conducive.
The other factors of the DASHVIDHA PAREEKSHA like BALA SATVA AADI which have not been described here, should also be considered here.
